Naugatuck Cemetery Walk is Off

The Gods of Halloween have spoken. Two massive storms on successive weekends have devastated the grave yard and clean up can't be done on time.

We'll see you next year Hillside Cemetery.

And should this happen again next year.....

Well we will see.

Happy Halloween.

LURID LIT is back and so are actual books

http://www.lurid-lit.com/2017/10/the-death-of-bibliophile-is-premature.html

We are not dead yet.

Get Off My Lawn TCM

Has been the resounding accusatory email I have been receiving these days. How dare I attack the creative thread in horror that sustains the hip as well as the hop.

I am a big fan of Roger Corman and see nothing wrong with his humor or even camp in the later Poe films. There is no bigger fan of the Phibes films than myself loving the great Vincent Price and his ability to draw a smirk.

Such can be artfully done. Such examples already noted.

It is just the lack of professionalism in the TCM ads that cause me pause and the overall stupidity of casting and writing in the latter Universal efforts that cause my intestines to knot.

As writers we should take our craft and out genre seriously. Humor has its place and is more difficult to write than straight drama.

Be careful with those efforts and respect your subject and readers.

Cheap is plentiful. Art is unique.

Halloween in Hollywood is a Barrel of Laughs: TCM You Suck

Horror has been a thoroughly flawed product in this country for a long time.

Part of the problem is our flawed educational system which resists true literature, imaginative thought and overall originality.

Part of the problem is Hollywood.

It was Hollywood that gave us Abbott and Costello Meet the... series and it was Hollywood that gave us Son of ..... series as well ______ meets _______All efforts to take the brands it established in the literary driven films and to bastardize the same for cash.

Cash because a growing population was already being less and less educated.

And yes, part of this problem is definitely us.

We don't demand more. We are lazy. We are trained in linear not layer thought. We also love building up something based on a serious literary work and tearing the same down because we are watch we watch and because we secretly loath intellectual talent.

We don't have a problem with physical talent; throwing a ball, kicking a ball or kneeling before a ball. But we all fear someone with an intellect. Egghead, College Boy, Poindexter, Smart Ass; all original and catchy terms to typify our loathing.

Case in point these annoying TCM Halloween promos with class C actors dressed as the Wolfman, Bride of Frankenstein and Blacula. These inane and insulting promos are demeaning.

These are not cute. These are stupid and also well deserved for a mass audience craving CGI and Animation for their children.

For us in the Horror community you should be incensed. But I know you are not. Our Horror community is over populated with over sexed and over slashed non-story telling hacks.

All as trained by Hollywood films.

The immortal Second City Television used to run a skit where some hicks gave glowing movie reviews to films with things 'blowed up'. It was a joke then. Today it is reality. Today it is Hollywood.

But then again for a society and industry that can't take Harvey Weinstein seriously and applauds Ben Affleck keeping their secrets for decades....

You all deserve each other.

Halloween Cemetery Walk Script

Details will come but we have been asked to write another. These are fun and educational. I love them and love to be part of the community where they take place. Film is great and so is television. Writing for books and magazines is great, but writing for the community and delving into the nonfictional lives of its past residents to bring to present residents is most satisfying.

As I said details and the site will follow.

In Peace is in the works

I am writing a new science fiction tale that I most excited about. IN PEACE is a simple story about government; the kind of government we are leaving behind: cruel and dismissive.

It is a reminder of what exactly humanity is --- inhumane.

Meryl Streep should love my review of film....

http://www.lurid-lit.com/2017/02/film-review-that-is-reviews-from-mill.html

If not the Hell with her.........

Editor's Notes: Really? A Photo?

I love these narcissists on social media who take photos of themselves with their "books". Hey, if it is self-published the writing community doesn't count it unless you have the history. Hey, shave and wear something better than you go to bed wearing......

In other words be professional and act professional. The state of literature world wide is in ruins as it is because of the hyper sexual and hyper political climate we live in. The state of literature world wide is in ruins because it has lost all honesty because of fake diplomas and correctness.

Be a professional and promote a return to the freedom of letters.

More nightmares!!!!

Good. We are having nightmares. Great. The nightmares are constant and vivid and the memory of those nightmares plays into my head as the light of day blinds my eyes.

More horror is coming.

More weird and wonderful tales are spilling forth to delight.

I am blessed that the creative process is still strong.

I am blessed it wasn't simply circumstance.

SCORCHED to be published again...

in the all new SCHLOCK! QUARTERLY. In print and for purchase. Details to follow.

The Age Old Struggle

To many writing and watching and reading and living the horror genre is an affront to God. Being a fan will ultimately send to fires of Hell.

If this were to be true I don't think I would necessarily mind after all I would know everyone there.

Seriously though this is a non-injurious practice whatever the form. In my case I do not pray to the vampire or seek solace in the teachings of the werewolf. I practice and experience art.

Horror is an art form much like comedy and romance and in my heart of hearts I believe the Lord enjoys a good story of the spirit every now and then just as he does a mural in the chapel.

Horrorftictionbooks.com is no more

Good luck to Neil in the emerald isle as Horrorfictionbooks.com sails into the sunset as he personally so notified me yesterday. It was fun being a part of this e-zine but like all experiences in life change follows.

His choice to close this banner is personal and not due to a dearth of subscribers.

We wish him well with his new venture and he will always be welcome as a friend.
